Rumor Confirmed: A New 7.3L Gas V8 is Coming to the Ford Super Duty

Ford F-250 Super Duty CC LSFRumors have been swirling about a new engine from Ford to replace the aging 6.2-liter V8 and the 6.8-liter V10, and now an inside source has confirmed to TFLTruck that it will be a new 7.3-liter gas engine.

Word broke of a possible new 7.3-liter V8 from Ford when a document leaked online over a year ago, showing the 7.3-liter engine on an oil recommendation list. Since then, another rumor suggested that it would be a 7.0-liter gas engine.

Well now a trusted source has put that to bed, telling TFL that the information leaked out at a UAW union meeting.

This will serve in Ford’s Super Duty and Medium Duty line of pickup trucks, stretching from the F-250 up to the F-750. Of course, nothing is known of the powerplant at this time, though it would be easy to assume that it will make more than the 385 horsepower and 288 hp found in the 6.2-liter and 6.8-liter respectively.

Somewhere close to 400 hp feels ideal for this engine, and we bet that is what Ford is aiming for.

The 10-speed automatic that has already spread throughout the F-150 lineup is another possible option, one that makes sense to help Ford’s Super Duty trucks with fuel economy.

Timing for the new engine is unknown, though we would bet that it will arrive sometime in early 2019.
