Warning Issued: Cargo Theft Bandits This Labor Day Weekend

Three Helpful Tips To Protect Your Freight

      Kentucky Trailer

Every Labor Day, for the past three years, CargoNet has recorded a spike in freight thefts around Labor Day weekend. We all know that holidays are the most vulnerable times for those bloody bandits attempting to make a quick steal. So, what do you need to know to protect your precious merchandise from cargo theft?

      1. Keep Your Cargo On the Move
The longer you sit at truck stops or leave your truck unattended the easier it is to become a target. Never leave your cargo unattended during this time of year.
      2. Get a padlock, a high grade security padlock.
Many of the thefts have occurred due to cheap locks, and no locks, at all. Don’t go out like that- get a lock.
      3. Know your surroundings – Be Alert
You’re on the road, you’re tired, you take a break but did you notice that car who has been following you or the guy at the stop giving your hauler the eye. Chances are you didn’t but you should. Always look around – if it looks sketch, pack up and keep moving, or alert someone.

You can view the CargoNet Infographic Here. It shows Labor Day weekend theft trends, hot spot states, times of day and record losses that have occurred.
