Operation Safe Driver Week 2015

Safety-First-Ectts-osdw15

Operation Safe Driver Week is set to kick off October 18-24, 2015. The campaign was first launched in 2007 with a focus on lowering and preventing the number of unsafe driving related injuries and deaths.

The program is spearheaded by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and state and local law enforcement.

According to the CSVA, 12,502 people were killed and more than 287,000 were injured in crashes involving at least one large truck or bus.

A staggering 287,000 injuries and 12,502 fatalities have resulted from large vehicular crashes. Many of these accidents were reported to be caused by both car and commercial vehicle motorists.

During last year’s week long campaign, law officials pulled over 59,080 drivers for unsafe driving behaviors.

According to truckinginfo.org, more than 80% of yearly traffic accidents involving commercial vehicles are the fault of the non-commercial driver.

Operation Safe Driver’s strong education outreach includes targeting high schools, trucking rodeos, local fairs, state capitals and more. It has since gained popularity influencing smaller organizations and company run awareness projects throughout the country.
